कौड़ी माता का मन्दिर
भारत में उत्तर प्रदेश की धार्मिक नगरी वाराणसी में एक मंदिर ऐसा भी है, जहाँ प्रसाद के रूप में कौड़ी चढती है और कौड़ी ही मिलती है। इसे ‘कौड़ी माता का मन्दिर’ कहा जाता है। यही नहीं कौड़ी माता का स्नान भी कौड़ी से ही कराया जाता है। अगर माता को प्रसन्न करना है तो रुपयों से कौडी ख़रीदी जाती हैं उनके चरणों में समर्पित करके आर्शीवाद पाया जाता है। चूंकि यह दक्षिण की देवी हैं, इसलिए दक्षिण भारत से आने वाले श्रद्धालु ही अधिकांशत: यहाँ पर दर्शन के लिए आते हैं। बाहरी दर्शनार्थी कौड़ी लेकर आते हैं और चढ़ाते हैं। बदले में प्रसाद स्वरूप उन्हें एक कौड़ी दी जाती है, जिसे श्रद्धालु सुख समृद्धि का प्रतीक मानकर अपने घर के पूजा के स्थान पर रखते हैं। ‘कौड़ी माता’ तमिल भाषा में ‘माता सोइउम्मा’ तथा तेलुगू में ‘गवल अम्मा’ के नाम से जानी जाती हैं।

मन्दिरो की नगरी काशी में बाबा काल भैरव मन्दिर है। यह मन्दिर काशी खन्डोक्त पुरातन मन्दिरॊ में सॆ एक है। इस मन्दिर की पौराणिक मान्यता यह है, कि बाबा विश्वनाथ ने काल भैरव जी को काशी का कोतवाल (ॠेतपाल) नियुक्त किया था। काल भैरव जी को काशीवासियो के दंड देने का अधिकार है। यहाँ रविवार एवं मंगलवार को अपार भीङ आती है। आरती के समय नगाडे, घंटा,डमरू,की धव्नि बहुत ही मनमोहक लगती है। यहाँ बाबा को परसाद में बड़ा,शराब (कारण) पान का विशेष महत्व है। यहाँ विषेश रूप से भूत-पिशाचादि के उपचार हेतु लोग आते हैं, तथा बाबा की कॣपा से ठीक हो जाते हैं। यहाँ बालकों को काले धागे ( गंडा ) दिया जाता है, जिससे बच्चे भय-मुक्त हो जाते हैं।
