Gomukhi – It is like a cloth bag. It is used in chanting garlands. The rule of Hindu religion is that if someone is chanting with a garland and if someone is looking at it, then the person who chants the garland does not get the full fruit. Therefore, whenever someone chants a mantra or a rosary, he must use Gomukhi.
Another thing to keep in mind is that while chanting the garland, the index finger of the hand should not be touched by the garland, it is not considered good, so in Gomukhi, that finger stays out automatically. One should always use thumb and middle finger in chanting Mala.
In Gomukhi, the hand and garland of the chanter remain inside the Gomukhi and no one looks at the hand or the garland in any way. Its importance becomes even more at the place where many people chant the mantra on garland together.
- It comes with or without the stripe. Some Devotees hangs their Gomukhi in their neck while others used to keep in their hands.
- It comes in various colours, clothes and designs while “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” is most favourite of devotees.
